Video & Story

THE CLASS

This class serves as an introduction to the technical and creative skills needed to produce successful video programs. Emphasis will be placed on using the medium creatively to express ideas and feelings utilizing combinations of cinematic elements. Students will explore and reimagine classic cinematic techniques as they create and critique original videos.

 

At the completion of the course, each student will be able to respond in a more critical manner to any type of video viewed and will be able to use the video medium to communicate creatively with others.

WEEKLY STORY SLICES

Most weeks, as a class, each student engages in creative audio/video production activities and class conversations that invite you to identify, apply, share, and improve your technical and aesthetic practices. These creative activities may contain any of the following components: (a) the initial video production and upload to our Class Google Drive, (b) editing and sequencing in post-production, (c) assemblage on your website, and (d)always sharing your weekly “Story Slice” via AsULearn. The production activities are
designed to increase your awareness and proficiency within a broad range of cinematic areas. 

EDITING ASSIGNMENT

This assignment challenges students to create a video story from our collective class raw footage and will demonstrate your ability to utilize sound design, narration, and clever editing techniques (target length 1-4 min. 

ORIGINAL VIDEO ASSIGNMENT

The final assignment of the semester offers a culminating opportunity to apply multiple
production and post-production techniques in the design and development of an
original video (target length 1-10 min.)
